Warming Herbal Teas for Cold Winter Days
Homemade Herbal Teas for the Hedge and
Garden Witch
The
winter cold is upon us. Our bodies crave warming food and drink. What’s better
than a homemade herbal brew! Not only does it taste good, but the medical properties
of the herb will boost our immune system. If it sounds daunting, it’s not. In fact,
it’s pretty basic. You need only herbs, fresh or dried, a tea ball, a mug and
some boiling water.
What
herbs make a good tea? If you want something immune boosting, make a blend of
thyme, rosemary and sage with ginger and cinnamon. Mix and match to your own
taste.
For
relaxation and respiratory support, brew a tea from chamomile, lemon balm and
holy basil. Again, you can mix and match. Add some lavender or other favorite
herbs. Dried fruit such as apples, peaches or mangoes makes a great addition, adding
a pop of flavor. Dropping in lemon or orange peel will give your tea a boost of
Vitamin C. Cloves add warmth and elderberry cold-fighting properties.
To
make the tea, add boiling water to the herbs and let steep. 5-10 minutes for dried
herbs and 10-20 minutes for fresh. Strain the tea if using fresh. If your tea
has cooled, you can reheat it. Enjoy!
If
you have a favorite mixture, let me know in the comments!
